Binge drinking is a new big worry in high schools. According to centers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 45% of teenagers have consumed alcohol in the past month and 64% admit to having more than five drinks in a row. We all know the effects alcohol has on the human body, such as your inhibitions being messed up. Well the more teenagers drink, the more likely they are to perform badly in school and engage in sexual activity and things they would usually not agree to while sober. Teens need to watch how much they drink and their surroundings because as a teen we feel we are in no danger and too young to die, but nothings impossible and accidents happen, especially when under the condition of drinking.

Alcohol possibly the most significant public health challenges we face in our country today. Or so that's what Antonia C. Novello believed was true. Antonia is a former general surgeon and now speaks out about the problem we have with underage drinking. She has been trying to convince teens of the risks alcohol has when starting to young. Although she hasn't always been successful with her tries she has still impacted others by her own life changing stories. The key to changing the role of the community and helping us solve illegal drinking is to prevent it before it happens.

Teens drinking has become so common and frequent that now in some places they are forced to take a breathalyzer before entering school functions such as dances or sporting activities. Educators say the tests encourage "zero tolerance" drug and alcohol policies. However, this brings up problems with some. Ever since the 4Th amendment of the U.S. constitution saying that citizens rights are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures. Some schools and most colleges require alcohol and drug /steroids tests before sports season now. Its an indicator on the players ability to play and if tested positive in any of theses the player is not legally allowed to play anymore.

Scientist have begun to develop medication to treat alcoholism. So far one drug naltrexone has shown positive affects. Alcohol is the most primitive intoxicate. Alcohol progresses itself into the countless parts of the cell. This disrupts the molecules and proteins that make up the receptors. Alcohol makes these receptors more sensitive and turn on. Each action in motion sets complicated changes in the downstream of the circuitry of the Brian. Neuroscientists in the past decades have made progress in finding a drug that prevents alcohol activity and all the indirect affects alcohol has on a person. Naltrexone works with the receptors by experimenting with abstained alcoholics and helps to keep them from returning to alcohol.

Women are generally smaller and have a higher percentage of body fat than men. This causes their metabolism to work less effectively and slower. Women are able to receive liver disease from alcohol over a shorter time and after less alcohol consumption. Females are more vulnerable to brain damage from alcohol. Having more than two alcoholic drinks a day increases the risk of breast cancer. These diseases and effects may happen to males as well but it takes a lot more alcohol and usually a longer time than females. Plus men may not receive the disease as badly as women.

Peer pressure and things such as the media affects the teenage ways. These are the many reasons teens are drinking today. According to statistics 87% of high school students have experimented with alcohol, and 56% of teens have started by 8th grade year. The younger the age of using alcohol, the more likely you are to become alcohol dependent. Underage drinkers do not consider the turns outs of this drug and how dangerous the effects may be. Drinking could lead to depression, suicidal behavior, or lead to an early death. It's unhealthy to be drinking underage but the earlier you start the more at risk you put your body in.

Diehl, Anna Mae. "Effects of alcohol on liver regeneration." Alcohol Health & Research World 17.n4 (Fall 1993): 279(5). Student Resource Center - Gold. Thomson Gale. Centennial High School (MD). 20 Dec. 2006 .

Although the liver is the only vital organ able to regenerate after damage alcohol not only damages it but impairs the livers natural functions. Alcohol has been known to cause liver disease. Alcohol drinkers who continue to drink decrease their chances with liver recovery. Alcohol can damage the livers cells and the livers self-repair process known as the livers regeneration. Parts in your body such as lungs, heart, and kidney functions may able to be replaced by mechanical devices but the liver is too complex for any machine. The liver is the only organ able to regenerate tissue in the human body. Since the liver is so powerful, this organ is able to rebound after cell loss in time if there is no further injury in the area.
